Professor Gan Li delivered an academic report

On 28th May, 2014, Professor Gan Li, the head of Economics and Management School of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, the director of Chinese Family Financial Investigation and Research Center, visited Center for City and Competitiveness, Cass and delivered an academic report and over 20 researchers of CCC attended. Professor Gan reported the latest achievements of his team: “the history of Chinese Family Financial Investigation, real estate and urbanization”.


Professor Gan firstly introduced the Chinese Family Financial Investigation in detail, from abstractive design to surveys in field, data collection and inspection, comparison and contrast with the data from Nate Statistics Bureau or from Western countries, which comprehensively shows the necessity and important implications of this project. Professor Gan then introduced about his and his team’s main researches and directions in real estate and urbanization from microeconomic data collected by them. The themes include “urbanization process and future challenges”, ”trend for Chinese urbanization” and “Chinese current situation for real estate ownership”, most of which are consistent with the propositions of CCC despite some nuances that caused discussion. Finally, Professor Gan had a warm discussion with the meeting participants in terms of real estate, urbanization and other hot topics.

Profile of Professor Gan

Professor Gan is the tenured profession of Economics School of Texas a&m university, the head of Economics and Management School of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, the director of Chinese Family Financial Investigation and Research Center, the “Changjiang Scholar” by Ministry of Education and the “Thousand Talents Programme” by the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the CPC. He graduated from Qsinghua University with bachelor’s degree and got his master and doctor degree from the University of California at Berkeley, taught by the Nobel Laureate Daniel L McFadden.
